From the Wikipedia article on kitesurfing:
"Kite surfing, also known as kitesurfing, fly surfing, and kiteboarding, involves using a power kite to pull the rider through the water on a small surfboard, a wakeboard, or a kiteboard.

A kitesurfer stands on a board with foot-straps or bindings, and uses the power of a large controllable kite to propel himself and the board across the water. However, this simplicity also makes kitesurfing challenging. Your body is the only connection between the kite and the board and you have to control them both at the same time: piloting the kite in the sky, and steering the board on the water."

Has anyone [and by anyone I mean the three other members of this community, if you happen to read this. (C'mon guys we need more members!)] ever tried kitesurfing? It sounds pretty neat to me. I wakeboard, and I can fly a kite, but both at the same time? Might be a tad bit difficult.
Ehh, I'll probably never get around to trying it, but still... I thought it was kind of interesting.

Great Forest Park Balloon Race
September 16, 2006
St. Louis, Missouri

Thousands gathered in Forest Park today for the 34th Annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race. Due to strong winds, many balloons, including the 166-foot-tall Energizer Bunny balloon, were unable to fly. About thirty balloons still managed to make flight, and a good time was had by all.

Seeing as how I really like the picture I figured i'd drop one in of me and a mate playing "Chase the Firebee" which plays pretty much how it sounds...I get my 3m 'bee in the sky and a mate fly's his 4.5m blade II and we try and keep the kites as close together as possible......great fun....honest.

a tale of night kite-flying

Sometime in early April of this year, I couldn't sleep because of howling winds. I tossed and turned, but could not get to sleep. I looked across the room and saw my brand new kite, assembled and ready to fly. I hesitated a moment, wondering if I'd be able to stay awake in class the next day if I did what I was about to do. Finally, I threw caution to the wind (BAD PUN), grabbed my kite, and went outside. A full moon cast light about as I unwound some string from the spool of my colorful flying apparatus. The night breeze was so strong that I didn't even have to run to get the kite aloft. I felt some resistance and fed the kite some more line. I couldn't believe it - I was really doing this.
After fifteen minutes or so, I was satisfied. I rewound the line, went back inside and quickly fell asleep.
